Head of Directorate: Dr. jur. Mehmet Köksal

Dr. Mehmet Köksal graduated at the Ankara University Law Faculty in 1986. Following his graduation, Dr. Mehmet Köksal worked at the university as a research assistant until he was granted a scholarship for a PhD degree in Germany. In 1995 Dr. Mehmet Köksal completed his academic studies at Konstanz University Law Faculty. After his return to Turkey, Dr. Mehmet Köksal has acted as an instructor of commercial and corporate law, property law, contract law, and consumer protection law at various law schools since 1996.

Dr. Mehmet Köksal holds various functions: Currently he is the Head of the Court of Arbitration AHK İstanbul, the National President of the Association of German Lawyers (VDA) and the auditor of the Swiss Chamber of Commerce. He is moreover a member of the International Bar Association and also of the İstanbul and Munich Bar Association. Köksal Law Firm has offices in İstanbul and Munich and is planning to set up an office in Berlin in the near future. His publications include amongst others: “New Turkish Commercial Code – Companies Law” and “Turkish Labor Law”.

The main focus of the DC Directorate will be set on Turkish business summits with attendance from diplomats which take place on a regular basis in Istanbul and in the big financial centers such as Frankfurt. The next Diplomatic Council German Turkish business summit is scheduled for July 10, 2014 in Frankfurt. The summit is organised in a joint effort by the DC Directorate Turkey and the DC SME Forum. Another business summit taking place in Istanbul is in preparation for autumn 2014.

Promoting economic relations

The Diplomatic Council Directorate Turkey was established with the intention of promoting international relations with Turkey. The Diplomatic Council strongly believes that a thriving economy bringing prosperity to mankind is one of the best guarantors for peace. This revelation was the motivation for the Diplomatic Council to translate its goal of promoting international understanding into an economic mandate. The Directorate Turkey links the methodology of a global business network with the diplomatic communication level between Turkey and other nations.
